Through the Fire

**I will begin by apologizing if my words do not flow as they should. I am listening intently to the eloquent words of my president (and yours..)**

And Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" He replied, "My name is Legion, for we are many." - Mark 5:9

Addiction and Angst. Misery and Malice. Procrastination and Pain. My beloved, meet my demons. Each one equally sinful, each one equally viscious. I'm not proud of them by any means, but the first step to getting through this process is to admit that there is a problem. No longer shall I hide behind them or, like others, fall victim to believing that it's simply a matter of my genetic make up.

For fifteen years, I have battled an addiction. Many issues in my past have caused me to do some very mean, vile, and evil things that I am not proud of. What breaks my heart daily is to look in the mirror and know that there are countless things that I started and did not finish. The time has come for those demons to go.

My President has inspired me. He's got a lot on his plate right now, but his cool demeanor and steadfast optimism is a great model to emulate. These next few weeks will not be easy for me. There will be struggles, there will be setbacks, there will be trials, and there will be tears. But, in the end, God-willing, I will rise.

And now, the match is lit, the nest is ablaze, and the phoenix of old prepares to die.
